Roman English
Timro poi lote lote, kasle diyo pote?
Literal English Translation
Your husband is good-for-nothing/incapable, who gave [you] the pote (traditional glass-bead necklace worn by married women)?
English Meaning
This proverb sarcastically questions how a woman, whose husband is perceived as financially weak, incompetent, lazy, or generally good-for-nothing, could afford or acquire symbols of prosperity or marital status (like a 'pote' necklace, which is traditionally worn by married Nepali women and often provided by the husband or his family). It highlights the discrepancy between the husband's supposed inability to provide and the wife's apparent well-being or possessions, often implying suspicion, gossip, or wonder about the true source of her acquisitions.
